Being best friends for over 20 years has been an incredible adventure for the two of us. We were creating long before we knew each other, and our great friendship has pushed us to excel!
Both of us were seamstresses when we became friends. We worked together on projects, traveled miles for fabrics and found ways to set our garments apart from others’. We delight in being “different”!
Kay followed a dream of opening her own flower shop several years ago and I, being a cheerleader, was there to sell whatever she produced. Ten years later she had had enough of being tied to one spot, and sold the shop. Kay joined me to work in a small yarn shop I'd found interesting, and we were off and running in a new direction. We learned to knit, crochet and bead garments, and it was most absorbing.
The trouble came when I took a class from a woman who came to teach needle felting. This was not something I wanted to learn because they were making plain, turn-up-the-cuff hats, but my arm was twisted a bit by our employer. I went, but I was NOT going to like it!
Well, I came out of that class with my head spinning. I had all sorts of things I was going to try doing with this newly found technique! I tried to get Kay as excited as I was, but she felt she had too many projects lined up and surely didn’t need another. I knew better! For Christmas I gave her everything she needed to join me in this terrific new adventure, and after 5 minutes she was hooked.
Today we have developed a line of patterns for needle felting that go another direction from what most needle felt artists are doing. We do more flat work with beads and fiber embellishing, and are teaching classes far and wide. We have co-authored two books on needle felting in 2006, and are looking forward to sharing more ideas as the months fly by. Our greatest joy is teaching a class and having the participants become as excited as we are! Come grow with us! Judy & Kay
